Tradeswomen: Our Colleagues in Craft

The cover of the 2026 Tradeswomen Calendar on an industrial surface

At Hemlock, we’re proud to work with creators who use print not just as a medium, but as a movement. One of the most inspiring collaborations we’ve taken part in this year is with Carly Steiman—electrician, lighting designer, tradeswomen advocate, and the creative force behind Lady Electric. Carly’s latest project, the 2026 Tradeswomen Calendar, is a photographic tribute to the women whose skill, grit, and artistry build the world around us.

When Carly approached Hemlock about printing the calendar, we immediately recognized how it aligned with our own values of craftsmanship, representation, and the belief that every tool-in-hand tells a story worth preserving. The tradeswomen featured in it are problem-solvers, builders, and our colleagues in craft.

About the 2026 Tradeswomen Calendar

At 12″ x 12″, the 2026 Tradeswomen Calendar blends striking portraiture with an artistic focus on the relationship between hands, tools, and the trades that build our future.

Each month features a different tradeswoman—electrician, carpenter, welder, plumber, mechanic—captured through the lens of acclaimed local photographer Millissa Martin. The creative direction and production were led by Carly herself, merging her lived experience in the trades with visual storytelling.

Why This Project Matters to Hemlock

Print as Advocacy

We’ve always believed print has the power to shift perspectives. This project exemplifies that completely. In an industry like ours, where hands, tools, precision, and craftsmanship define our everyday work, we see so much of ourselves reflected in this calendar. The stories resonate deeply with our own staff on the production floor and in the pressroom.

Representation in the Trades

The print industry, much like other trades, is historically male-dominated. But our prepress, production, finishing, and leadership teams include women who embody the same strength, resilience, and creativity featured in Carly’s project.

Seeing tradeswomen highlighted this way is not just inspiring, it’s necessary. Visibility sparks possibility.

Community Impact

The Tradeswomen Exhibit is more than a calendar; it’s an educational effort. Carly’s mission includes getting these calendars into classrooms, where young people can see a wider spectrum of future career paths. We applaud this, and we’re proud to help support the production of a tool that sparks imagination.

The Making of the Calendar

Printed by us with meticulous detail, the 2026 Tradeswomen Calendar combines quality paper and precise finishing. The result: each photograph feels as powerful on paper as it does in person.

Our team of press operators, colour specialists, and bindery staff collaborated closely to bring Carly’s vision to life. Projects like this remind us why we love what we do. They challenge us, connect us to our community, and let us contribute to conversations that matter.
