Hemlock wins digital printing gold award at the Sappi North American printer of the year competition.

Hemlock Printers Ltd., headquartered in Burnaby, BC was honoured with a gold medal at the 2010 Sappi North American Printer of the Year competition.  From a total of over 3,000 entries from all over North America, ten Gold winners were selected, one in each of 10 product categories. Hemlock’s entry in the Digital category garnered this coveted award, and put Hemlock in the 2010 Gold Winners circle as the only Canadian printing company. The 10 North American Gold winners will receive $20,000 in design support from Sappi and move on to compete against other gold winning projects from printers in Europe, Australia, Africa, Central and South America.

“It is a great honour to be recognized in such a prestigious competition,” says Hemlock President & CEO, Dick Kouwenhoven.  “This is our second Sappi Printer of the Year Gold award, and is of great significance, recognizing our unique position and quality of work also in Digital print. Hemlock’s staff has made great progress with this innovative technology, while we maintain our “integrity in colour” pledge, which we have practiced for over four decades in our traditional offset lithography.”

Hemlock was awarded the gold medal in the Digital Category for a beautiful book by The Orange Apple Creative Imagery.  Based in Vancouver, BC, The Orange Apple Creative Imagery specializes in creative illustration and photography for the advertising and photographic industries.  They called on Hemlock to create for them a perfect bound portfolio, which consists of eighty-eight vibrant pages showcasing their finest work for a variety of world-class clients. Only 50 copies were produced.  Artistic ability, fine detail, and eye-popping colour make these images visually stunning.  Using our HP Indigo, these images were printed digitally, using 4 colour process on 100 lb. McCoy Silk paper, FSC Certified with 10% post-consumer waste.  The cover was embossed and foiled in Silver.
